Looking for someplace to go this St Patricks weekend? Here are our suggestions ... Croagh Patrick, County Mayo Ireland's Holy Mountain is just outside the beautiful town of Westport in County Mayo.  At 750 metres above sea level, getting to the top ain't simple. And many pilgrims do it barefoot! Views of Clew Bay from the top are stunning on a clear day.  Saint Patrick climbed to the top in 441AD, where he fasted for 40 days and 40 nights. Wrap up warm, regardless of the weather at the bottom, it'll be baltic at the top. Afterwards treat yourself to food and drinks in lovely Westport.

What The Locals Say - Glenveagh National Park
What The Locals Say - Glenveagh National Park

Glenveagh boasts several well-signposted walking trails, suitable for all levels of fitness, and even a shuttle bus from the visitors centre to the castle if you are feeling particularly lazy! No matter which route you choose, you will be amazed by the beautiful views of mountains, lakes and glens that await you at every turn. What The Locals Say - Kylemore Abbey
What The Locals Say - Kylemore Abbey

Although the Abbey is the main attraction. I personally prefer visiting the Gardens and/or neo-gothic church.   As you exit the Abbey, the neo-gothic church is only a short walk to your left. This walk is along the lake and really makes for some beautiful Connemara scenery. It’s a very peaceful place. Once I get to the church I usually admire it for a little bit, go inside, walk around, light a candle, have a moments silence to myself and then carry on exploring.  Up next is the Gardens. To get to the Gardens you walk back to the Abbey and can continue to walk to the Gardens or get the shuttle bus that will bring you out to them.  The Gardens are magnificent. They are pristine with so many flowers in every colour and feature an amazing vegetable garden too. You could easily pass an hour or two walking around the gardens poking your head in and out of the greenhouses, the fairy garden the little old fashioned houses and sheds.
