My Scratchable Map Ireland with Katie from Kerry
A little bit about me
I’m from Kerry originally but living in Cork for work. I’m a chartered accountant working as an auditor. My hobbies include photography (of course), walking, cycling, Zumba, hill walking and farming and spending time with my dogs and animals.
How Long have you had your Scratchable Map Ireland?
I’ve had my wonderful map since last August, which came in the post with beautiful packaging and presentation, I was very impressed. I went straight out and bought a frame.
Did you buy it yourself or receive it as a gift?
I purchased it myself, I wanted to get out of my usual photography spots and found the map which I thought would be an excellent idea to plan trips to different areas, and it has definitely helped.
How many of the attractions have you scratched off your map so far?
I’ve done a lot of the south of Ireland and along the east, but once the restrictions are over I’d love to get to more along the west and north. I’ve 18 ticked off so far.
Which attraction on Scratchable Map Ireland is your favourite? And why?
My favourite has been Hook Head Lighthouse. Two of my favourite things are windmills and lighthouses, so of course getting to visit one of the oldest operating lighthouses in the world was a real treat. The drive down was beautiful especially towards the lighthouse and I probably wouldn’t have gone without my map.
Where do you hope to visit next?
Next on the list is the Stairway to Heaven in Fermanagh (once the lockdown is over of course) it’s been on my list for a while so I’m really looking forward to it
Did you scratch off the attractions that you visited before before your Scratchable Map Ireland? Or did you 'start afresh' when you got your map?
Started afresh, you can’t just get the map and tick off everywhere! 🙈 I think it adds to the day knowing you are going there and afterwards get to tick off a list, but maybe that’s because I’m an accountant and like lists.
Did your Scratchable Map Ireland help you to discover any new attractions? If so, which ones?
Absolutely, my mum is from Wicklow and I would never have realised where the dolmen in Carlow was was until I got my map and realised it was on the road we have driven through hundreds of times.
Have a picture of your Scratchable Map Ireland you'd like to share with us?
I do but it’s currently locked away in my house in cork as a result of COVID 19, my map is in quarantine and isolation, but probably a good thing 😂
